Travel to Belize is swift, with flights to the United States averaging 3 hours to & from major cities like New York and Miami. Belizeans also share many casual culture traits with Americans. Facing the vast Caribbean Sea, this Central American country is one of the few that speaks English. Visitors to Belize must possess a passport valid for at least three months after the date of arrival and a return ticket with sufficient funds to cover their stay. Visitors are given a one-month stay, after which an extension can be applied for with the Immigration Department. Visas are not required for citizens of the United States and its territories, Canada, United Kingdom and its territories, European Union, Caribbean and Central American Countries.

The economy in Belize is solid. Property values are especially stable, and have grown at a steady rate for several decades.

Property taxes are relatively low in Belize, and there are no capital gains or inheritance taxes. The country also boasts one of the region’s more liberal retirement programs, the Retired Person’s Incentive Program. Under its terms, foreign citizens who meet a few basic requirements can import their possessions duty free and gain special residence status.

Belize currency exchange is extremely easy for American visitors. The Belize dollar is locked at $2 BZ = $1 USD. Most places readily accept USD currency as well as traveler’s checks with a valid passport or driver’s license. Large bills (anything above a $20 bill) are a little more difficult to cash. ATMs are available across the country, particularly in most tourist destinations.

Belize lies on the east coast of Central America in the heart of the Caribbean Basin. It borders Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and the south, and is flanked by the Caribbean Sea to the east. Subtropical with a prevailing wind from the Caribbean Sea. Average winter: 75 degrees F. Average summer: 81 degrees F. Annual rainfall ranges from 50 inches in the north to 170 inches in the south.

The people are warm, welcoming, and community-oriented, embracing a relaxed island lifestyle. Hospitals: There are three hospitals in Belize City; one public and two private. There are also health clinics throughout the country.

San Pedro Urgent Care: Our on-site medical clinic was added to the property for our owners’ peace of mind should any medical emergencies occur. They now offer emergency and general medical care to Caribeville owners and the population of San Pedro alike.

Water: Potable water is available in most areas of Belize, but it is advisable to ask, and if in doubt, to drink boiled or bottled water.

Vaccinations: No vaccinations are required for entry, but anti-malaria tablets are recommended for extended stays in the jungle.
